Art, Healing, and WELLNESS
My late father had a significant influence on me as a child. The wisdom he shared continues to serve as guidance in my life today.
He was a modern day Renaissance Man—an artist, machinist, architect, and bible scholar… talented in everything he put his mind to. When he passed away suddenly in my early teens, I innately followed in his footsteps and practiced art as a form of self-expression.
During the long grieving process, when no words could be found to convey my internal difficulties and struggles, art was my only voice. Creating was a way for me to honor his memory and also to reflect on my own emotions as I processed the loss.
In my adolescence, two of my brothers were diagnosed with autism, so I can relate first-hand to the unique challenges and triumphs those who have a sibling on the spectrum can face.
It gives me great joy to form collaborative sibling art workshops as well as to integrate art-based lesson plans into the programs of children who have special needs. Art can be a wonderful outlet for communication, strengthening targeted skills, and connecting with others.
I hope to bring a sense of peace to the viewers of my work and inspire others to pursue their own creative aspirations— whether in their community or in the comfort of their own home.
